Art :: Gallery Three: Napkins

Link to Gallery Three

In 2000, I ventured into another surface – the lowly napkin, like its earlier memo pad cousin, also very porous.  The paintings that appear in this gallery all reflect computer enhancement now consisting of two effects on the Photo Editor program: negative and the mysterious water color, an intensifier of texture with a built-in randomness.  The mottling effect on the napkin background illustrates this feature.

Furthermore, the napkins proved a great host for the markers.  Some color would seep through from the front panel painting to the inner sleeve, enabling me to use that as a starter for the next piece.  Sometimes that entailed simply encircling shapes that suggested faces and bodies with a ball point pen, then finishing with added colors.
